Copy this file into explainers/<section>/<slug>.md and delete this blockquote. Sections: history, model-families, benchmarks, concepts, compute, policy, ecosystem, open-questions. The three header lines above are required - scripts/check_counts.py fails CI without them, and scripts/build_manifest.py lists the page in the generated EXPLAINERS.md from them. Explainers are unnumbered and carry no frontmatter.

An explainer covers something that is not one paper: a lineage, a benchmark family, a debate, a policy, an economic picture. Link down into the paper summaries (../../papers/<category>/<NN-slug>/summary.md) for the detail, rather than re-summarising them here. Where the guide pillars (learn/, build/, safety/ and so on) already have a hands-on page on the topic, link to it instead of duplicating it.

House style is the same as the summaries: plain language for a motivated beginner, no em dashes. Anything that changes month to month (model versions, prices, rankings, laws in progress) is stated "as of" the review date, with a source. If a figure cannot be sourced, leave it out.
